Still busy, but decided to have fun this weekend. I attended an all-night party of electronic music at a downtown club, with decorations and encouraging attire in the theme of the Super Mario Brothers line of video games.

Yes, I went to a Nintendo Rave. :)

It was organised to be safe, drug-free (on site anyway, nothing they can do about what people will ingest before coming) and with a good variety of styles by rotating DJs over two dance floors. I heard of it from a friend who unfortunately couldn't attend, so I was by myself. Still, I had a lot of fun, dancing with only a few short breaks to drink water/Sprite from 11pm to 5am, then resting a bit, a little more dance and left at 6am as the sun was rising in the Eastern sky.

Throughout the night, I had:
- 2 people recognise me from running the DDR at the Ottawa anime convention
- 1 person recognise me from being a regular at the Midway arcade (where I play DDR)
- 6 people boggle openly at my apparent age and try to understand why I would want to go to a rave (I like some of the styles of music presented, and I like to dance)
- 1 guy's (already-high while waiting in line) brain blown when he asked how long I've been listening to "techno" and I answered "25 years or so" (as it's a vague term not really meaning much and I expanded it to electronic music in general)
- 1 girl, dressed in a 50s-cut polka-dot red dress (which stood out sharply in the sea of black tops and parts-of-tops), who gawked openly, took me apart and praised my dancing (she had had various lessons too), and wouldn't believe my age (nice ego-boost), then asked me to "troll"... took me a few minutes to understand she meant "twirl" really badly pronounced (the thumping bass and half-inability to hear higher frequencies by that time didn't help), but by then I think she thought I was on something and bid me goodbye. Fine by me, she was at most 22 anyway. Nice compliment, don't want to go anywhere though. :)
- at least 20 times I had a good thumbs-up from appreciative other dancers.

One guy was dressed as a giant BoBomb: 3 hoops joined at top and bottom, black thin material attached to make a rough sphere with two big eyes, big foam boots on his feet, marshmallow-shaped block on his head; easy to open and close as needed to walk around. He was a hit - he was the bomb. :D

I'm still recovering - my left knee really didn't appreciate - but hey, I had the weekend to recuperate, and I figured why not? Attend one rave in my life, in a nice controlled atmosphere. Though I am quite aware this was a really sissy pseudo-rave, as far as these things go. :) EDIT: I meant (probably erroneously) that some might feel a bigger location would have given it a better rave feel than a cramped downtown club. The vibe certainly was excellent and friendly, though the fog machines kicking in at 5am and starting the fire alarm and kicking out the music on one dance floor didn't help things...
