My poor legs will not like me
Oct. 7th, 2011 09:34 pmThen again, they should be used to it by now. And I coddle them enough before and after, too.
Today was work's United Way (and friends) big fundraiser, a 10k relay race where we do a 1k lap each per team. Theme for our team was Santa and his reindeers. I requested Dasher, but it was already taken. On Comet, then! Then I had a silly thought, wore a red shirt, and wrote on my back race bib "Warning: May Cause Some Redshift" since, like last year, all I did was pass people. Quickly in many cases. My time was 3:20, not bad at all.
As my legs complained (and my arms, ouch, wasn't expecting the lactate ion buildup to hit there), tonight I went 90 minutes in the Plant pool, hot tub and steam room. Then Chinese, because it's right there and I was too wobbly to want to cook.
And this weekend, I'll be doing four Orienteering races in three days at the Ontario championships held in Carp and Kanata. The last year in my age category; the hope is to be middle of the pack. Bubble baths every day, then a day off Tuesday with a 45 minute massage scheduled, and very little walking otherwise.
My cookie fortune, after I asked it the question "What will be my performance this weekend": Your heart is pure, and your mind is clear. I do need a clear head to not make mistakes, especially all the mistakes I made in training sessions. Though when I did, I forgot about the lost time and concentrated on the next control, which is a much better attitude.
