Irish! addendum
Apr. 1st, 2005 09:59 amOne thing about the weekend - I hope the people I saw at the concert last night weren't an indication of the demographics of the rest of the weekend. Let's say I was pretty sure that in the audience, only one person was younger than me, and a handful were within a decade older than me. Most were well above 50. A significant number were above 60.
What is it that prevents 'young' (20-40 years) people from actually wanting to attend such social events? Is socialisation as dead as socialism? One corollary I can see is that the art and knowledge of convention-making may soon be extremely scarce, and anyone wanting to put something like this (there are many similarities to SF cons and other volunteer-run conventions) would have no choice but to hire consultants or convention-making companies, at whicih point no one could afford it.
But, I could be wrong. I'm hoping I'm wrong. The Thursday concert is not official part of the weekend activities, after all.
