There's no way to explain this without sounding stupid, so here goes.

In orienteering at Camp Fortune (a ski resort and park) last Sunday, I was running to the finish along the bottom of a ski slope, about 100m' worth. On wet grass, and uneven ground. In shoes caked with mud.

I no longer have memory of what happened. The small semi-circular wound on my left palm attests to me trying to break my fall foward, which likely made me start to pivot. Memory starts with the right side of my face hitting something very hard while thinking "stupid!!!" with a sharp pain on my right shoulder then rolling on my back, both arms slightly pointing away from my body though straight.

As I was in line of sight of the finish, I got help quickly. A brief but good exam by one qualified person ascertained injury was only on shoulder for sure, neck maybe, I didn't move either past a quick very slow head roll a few centimetres either way to check for pain (none). They kept me warm until the ambulance arrived and took me to the Hull hospital.

Many hours and x-rays later, verdict was: neck fine, clavicle (shoulder blade) broken in three pieces, five stitches for the gash next to the eye at point of impact with the flat rock. Same clavicle I had a hairline fracture in a small bike-car door meetup 20 years ago. Doctor wanted to operate, but had no choice to send me away to Ontario's system, up to me to do follow-up. Off I went home with my right arm in a sling.

Got to the Orleans Urgent Care Clinic yesterday morning as my doctor was booked solid with appointments and was only on walk-=in today, and I didn't want to wait. Now I'm waiting for a call from Montfort's orthopaedic surgeon(? "bones doctor" was the other term) to see if surgery is needed in their opinion. I am told by someone that two people they knew with shoulder fractures didn't get surgery and healed not quite right, so I'll definitely push.

So yeah, plans are all out the window... My mother visits me to help me eat and prepare, so I'm not on my own. Hope to get call soon. But in the big picture, it's a major annoyance only, and one of my own doing, so I can't complain at all. EDIT: Got appointment early Thursday to see orthopedic surgeon. Will know options then.
